Rowan Peck
Clinical Psychologist
Kia Ora, I'm Rowan,
I was born in the UK and moved to New Zealand as a teenager, settling in South Canterbury with my family. It's a place I still think of as home, and growing up in a farming community there gave me a real understanding of rural life and the particular challenges that come with it.
I trained as a Clinical Psychologist at Victoria University of Wellington. I worked in the disability sector, providing assessment and support for people of all ages with neurodiversity conditions and disabilities, and as a Senior Psychologist for Te Whatu Ora in adult community mental health teams, a majority of that time was as a rural psychologist at Hillmorton Hospital.
These days I also work as a Clinical Educator at the University of Canterbury, where I teach and supervise the next generation of clinical psychologists. Private practice sits alongside all of that, and it's work I find genuinely rewarding.
Before becoming a psychologist, I was as an outdoor instructor and then worked around ten years emergency services. That included frontline work as an EMT with Hato Hone St John and Wellington Free Ambulance, and research and advisory roles within Police. I still hold specialist contracts supporting emergency services personnel, and that community matters a great deal to me and remains a strong interest.

My Services
I offer psychological assessment and therapy for adults, including formal diagnosis where appropriate.
Therapy is personalised. The approach, techniques, and duration will always depend on what you need, and we work that out together, usually starting in our first meeting.
One of my favourite parts of the work is helping people develop a clearer understanding of their own thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and experiences, and the situations they find themselves in.
Approaches I use: CBT, ACT, EMDR, PBS, DBT, and MCT. If any of those are unfamiliar, I am happy to explain what they involve and what you might expect.
I also offer ACC Sensitive Claims therapy.

Staff Support
Having worked on the frontline myself, I understand the particular pressures that come with this work, both in the moment and over time. I hold contracts with NZ Police and Hato Hone St John, and welcome referrals through those organisations.
Support can include:
Specific critical incidents or events
Cumulative stress and occupational burnout
General wellbeing at work and at home
The impact this work has on relationships and life outside the job
If you are looking for support, your organisation's wellbeing representative can help with a referral.
I have experience supervising colleagues from a range of professional backgrounds, including therapy, medical, allied health, and non-clinical roles.
I draw on several supervision models and aim to find an approach that works for you rather than a one size fits all style.
If you are interested, get in touch and we can have a conversation about whether it would be a good fit.
